MyFitnessPal is a popular app from Under Armour. Available free on Apple and Android devices, MyFitnessPal helps you track exactly what calories, macros, and vitamins/minerals you’re ingesting with each meal, each day. But if you want to seamlessly and efficiently monitor you health you don’t just need the right app – you need a smart weight scale that is compatible with it too. In this post we discuss the best options for smart scales that work with MyFitnessPal.
There are a number of things you should be considering when choosing a smart scale:
What do you want to measure? If you want to measure things like body fat and other body composition metrics there are smart scales for that. This will obviously cost more though and there are issues about accuracy with these scales. However, if used under consistent conditions they can be useful for tracking overall progress over time, even if exact measurements aren’t 100% correct.
Platform size – if you have larger feet or mobility issues, you may need a larger platform.
Display – what is the size of the display and is there backlighting? This can effect how well you can see the results. But it’s also about aesthetics. Some displays make things more personalised with your name and/or emoticons to reflect how well you are progressing against your goals.
Wifi or Bluetooth – If you do not have good wifi access in your bathroom you may want a Bluetooth enabled scale.
Because MyFitnessPal is so popular as a health app, there are in fact many smart scales that are compatible with it. We have looked around at the different options however and felt these were the top 4 options out there. These are also the only scales that are featured on the MyFitnessPal apps page.
Top 3 smart scales compatible with MyFitnessPal
Under Armour UA Scale
A good option for MyFitnessPal is to go with UnderArmour’s own product, the UnderArmour UA Scale. By keeping your scale within the UA ecosystem you are ensuring that you are future-proofing yourself against any compatibility or integration issues. You you can also purchase the scale as a part of the complete UA Healthbox system which comes with the scale, wristband, and chest strap, all connected wirelessly to interface with the MyFitnessPal app. Purchasing the UA Healthbox also give you 3 free months of MyFitnessPal Premium.
The scale itself has a sleek design, and can track your body weight, body fat percentage, and progress towards you weight loss goal. It connects via Wi-Fi to your phone, and can recognize up to eight different users. It has an easy-to-read LED screen. All this means that the scale is easy to use and accurate for helping you track your own progress towards your goals, as well as the progress of your spouse or other people you live with.
The wristband tracks sleep, heart rate, steps, and workout intensity. It’s water resistant, lets you track workouts and music, and will connect to your phone via Bluetooth. This all means it can complement your workout and other fitness tools to measure the inputs and outputs of all your workouts, and thereby keep you motivated!
Finally, the chest strap can directly measure the electrical impulse of your heartbeat to connect with the wristband and your phone in tracking your effort. It’s water resistant so it won’t be damaged when you get really sweat, and it automatically syncs with your phone. Overall, the UA Health Box is a complete package to complement the diet tracking you’d do on MyFitnessPal.
Nokia Body + (Body Composition Scale)
Nokia Body + is the next-generation smart scale from Nokia that uses new technology for more accurate weight readings. The native app for the scale, Health Mate, is pretty comprehensive, but it is compatible with S Health, able to sync all the data across. I do like the trend screen which shows the previous 8 weigh-ins, so you can immediately see what your progress is like. If you use the Wifi connectivity it even gives a daily weather report so that you can “plan your outfit and day’s activities.” Interesting, but probably a bit of a novelty! Overall, this smart scale has interesting features and advanced metrics. It comes in white or black. The simpler and cheaper version of Nokia Body + is called Nokia Body, which only measures weight .

The Wahoo Balance is a smart scale that uses Bluetooth 4.0 to connect with your iOS devices. The Wahoo Balance only works with iOS so if you are an Android user you need to find a different option. The ‘native app’ of this smart scale is Wahoo Wellness which is integrated with many 3rd party apps and MyFitnessPal is on the list. The Wahoo Balance scale only measures weight and BMI and doesn’t have any fancy features. In fact, it’s very much a no-frills product and this is reflected in its price. So if you are only interested in tracking your weight and none of the fancy stuff, this is a great option.

The truth is any of these scales would be useful when combined with MyFitnessPal. And in fact many smart scales are indeed compatible with MyFitnessPal, so this is by no means an exclusive list. If you truly want the most seamless and future-proofed smart scale for MyFitnessPal (and you have the budget for it) you might want to go for the UnderArmour’s very own UA scale, since they both belong to the UnderArmour family. Otherwise, any of these smart scales are a good option.
